Project 4:4--Day Three Hundred Nineteen

Day Three Hundred Nineteen, John 15-17

As Jesus and His disciples head out toward the Mount of Olives, Jesus gives them yet another metaphor, as He tells them, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener...Remain in me and I will remain in you...I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

More of how much I need Him. Apart from Him, I can do nothing.

Jesus also gives His disciples more instruction about love. "Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other."

Jesus again promises that although He is going away, He will send the Holy Spirit to teach them and to guide them. Jesus then prays for Himself, He prays for His disciples, and then...the awesomest thing...Jesus prays for me! And for you! He prays for those who would believe in Him through His apostles message:

"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believein me through their message, that all of themmay be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not knowyou, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
